Information on the project ‘Story of an island (Sardinia)’:<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sardinia: second largest island in the Mediterranean, part of Italy since 1861<\/em><\/p>\n

The flag symbolises the country.<\/strong> It is a representative sign of a nation; a symbol of togetherness.<\/p>\n

The Sardinian flag symbolises Sardinia. It is the starting point of my painterly realisation, in which I want to document the fateful, cruel past of that oppressed people, with whom I am very closely rooted through my Sardinian mother.<\/p>\n

From a historical point of view, the Sardinian ‘sign’ has existed for about 1000 years.<\/p>\n

My works deal with the period from the existence of the sign to modern times in 10 pictures. The starting point of the creative process in each case is the laminated flag on a 1.60m x 1.20m canvas.<\/p>\n

Today’s version of the Sardinian flag shows the red Gregorian cross on a white background and four Moorish heads pointing to the left with blindfolded eyes. It has been the official symbol of the ‘Kingdom of Sardinia’ since 1590, under Aragonese rule.<\/p>\n

The works show emotionally-intuitive painterly processes, deliberately not illustrative, in order to awaken a chain of associations that should meet higher standards and not just clumsily visualise ‘history’. By changing and modifying the elements of the sign, as well as pictorial metaphors, I create new contexts of meaning, on the basis of which I make my subjective statement about a particular epoch.<\/p>\n

My paintings are intended as a tribute to the land and to the Sardinian people, who even today stand on the shaky foundations of their past; the past of an isolated, wild country with the status of freedom of an outlaw.<\/p>\n<\/div>
